I Miss You When I Blink (2019)
I Miss You When I Blink is a photographic series that sees a continuing exploration of grief and longing which I began in 2018, following the sudden passing of my Grandfather Jimmy Angus. This series explores the tribulations of losing a home.
For three generations, my family always had my Grandfather Jimmy’s home in the countryside, situated in Tolmie, Victoria. It served as a central gathering place for my family, and it was where my Mother and Aunties were raised by Jimmy and their late mother, my grandmother, Dorothy.
Following Jimmy's sudden passing in late 2017, my family found ourselves reluctantly having to dispose of his belongings and sell the home in the subsequent year. The loss of Tolmie has evoked various levels of anguish within the family, leaving me pondering, what will become the new gathering place for my family, and what truly defines a home.
My Mother, Wendy, has likened the loss of Tolmie to "losing a third parent."
I Miss You When I Blink serves as a poignant tribute to the life of my Grandfather Jimmy and the home he established for his family.
